Together with Heng Samrin and Chea Sim he was charged with implementing forced labor camps and exterminating 'undesirables' in eastern Cambodia.[2] In 1977 he fell out of grace with Pol Pot and was forced to flee to Vietnam. There he joined the United Front for the National Salvation of Kampuchea (UFNSK). He returned to Cambodia in 1978 when Vietnam invaded and overthrew the Pol Pot regime. The Vietnamese established the People's Republic of Kampuchea of which Hun Sen became a prominent member.[3] Supported by the Vietnamese, Hun Sen quickly gained the position of prime minister of the People´s Republic.[4] He has been the sole leader of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), which has governed Cambodia since the Vietnamese-backed overthrow of the Khmer Rouge in 1979. Since the restoration of multi-party democracy in 1993, the CPP has been in a coalition with the royalist Funcinpec party.

He had taken legal steps to disown Malis and to prevent her from receiving any inheritance. Nonetheless, he asked the audience to accept homosexuals.[10][11][12]
Although Hun Sen's birthday is officially celebrated on April 4, 1951, he had revealed that his actual date of birth was August 5, 1952.[13] He had apparently lied about his date of birth to appear older when joining the Khmer Rouge as a youth. "Samdech" was attached to his name in 1993 by King Norodom Sihanouk. It is only an honorary title and does not give him further powers. He has a glass eye, the result of a wound sustained during the Khmer Rouge offensive against Phnom Penh in April 1975. Hun Sen is currently the longest serving leader in South East Asia and is one of the longest serving prime ministers in the world, having been in power through various coalitions since 1985.

, the thing that set this bathroom aside from other contemporary bathroom design is the audacity of its location and appearance.
Designed by Gary Todd and owned by builder Glen Cayless, this master bathroom offers an open view on the mountain side of Wakatipu Basin. The inside of the room is made from concrete with textural finishes, and Italian tiles that resembles the surface of stone.
"Palissandro, a white Italian marble with onyx veining, is used on both the floors and walls. A wall of glass looks out to a garden and meandering stream, and the smooth marble surfaces link visually with the river stones and white pebbles outside. As the bathroom is set in a quiet rear corner of the home, privacy wasn't an issue here. Even the curvaceous tub looks as though it might have been hewn from the mountainside." said Todd.
The bathroom installed with modern technology such as LED lighting for illumination as well as atmospheric controller to adapt to the weather of different seasons.
